Accessibility Statement

Moodle U.Porto presents a high level of compliance with the accessibility requirements set out in Decree-Law No. 83/2018 of 19 October.

Compliance status

Moodle U.Porto uses Moodle LMS 4.5, which achieved WCAG 2.2 Level AA accreditation in October 2025, following an external audit conducted by GrackleDocs, a consultancy specialising in digital accessibility. The audit combined manual testing with tools such as JAWS, NVDA and WAVE, following the WCAG Evaluation Methodology.

This accreditation refers to the Moodle LMS product and does not constitute a specific audit of the Moodle U.Porto installation. The customisations introduced by the University of Porto in the platform's theme were developed in accordance with the WCAG 2.2 Level AA guidelines.

The platform is mostly compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. Despite the high level of compliance, some limitations identified in the Moodle VPAT report remain, namely in certain advanced interface components and in some level AAA criteria, without significant impact on overall level AA compliance.

User-generated content

The accessibility of content published in course units (documents, presentations, videos, images, quizzes and other resources) is the responsibility of the respective authors. Although the University of Porto provides tools to support the creation of accessible content and encourages teachers and students to follow best practices, it cannot guarantee the accessibility of all user-generated content.

Accessibility support features

Moodle U.Porto includes the following accessibility features:

  • Full keyboard navigation, with no timing requirements;
  • Compatibility with screen readers and voice recognition software;
  • Page structure compatible with assistive technologies, enabling consistent navigation and correct interpretation of content by screen readers;
  • Built-in accessibility checker in the content editor (TinyMCE);

This statement was reviewed in July 2026 based on the WCAG 2.2 Level AA accreditation awarded to Moodle LMS 4.5 in October 2025.
